Cybex Sirona Car Seat – Review

While looking for a the next size car seat for Emma we realised it wasn’t quite as easy as we’d first thought. We went in and out of stores feeling more and more confused. There are new car seat laws to take into consideration, which I’ve explained here, and too many ifs and buts.

In the end we went for Cybex Sirona. A friend of mine got it a while back and she and her little boy love it. Turns out we do too so here is my review:

The Cybex Sirona is classified as 0+/1 as it’s suitable from birth to approximately 4 years, or 0-18kg.

The car seat uses Isofix and was surprisingly easy to install. It’s fairly heavy so I suspect we won’t be moving it until we absolutely have to.

The chair has a swivel mechanism, letting it swivel 360°, which means getting baby in and out is easy. It also means the seat can be both forward and rear-facing. When rear-facing, it uses a five point harness that’s surprisingly easy to get on. The seat will only go forward facing when the harness is tucked away and you’re using the adjustable safety cushion. It straps on like a seat belt and ultimately protects the passenger’s inner organs during a collision.

We were a bit hesitant about the safety cushion; would Emma be happy being strapped in by a massive cushion?

At the moment she’s too small for it anyway. She only just weighs 9kg which means she’s only just allowed to travel forward facing. So the cushion will have to wait. We got this car seat because it is rear-facing and we’ll most likely only change to forward facing when she doesn’t have enough leg room. At the moment the cushion swallow her up but by then it definitely won’t. My husband and I both decided we wouldn’t not get what we deemed the safest car seat just because Emma might not like it. We’re sure she will.

Another safety feature is the way the car seat is built to absorb the impact of a collision which the manufacturer calls Seat-to-Chassis Technology. There are also shock absorbers on the sides of the seat that are meant to absorb the impact before the seat does.

The seat reclines slightly more than other similar car seats we we’re looking at. It’s easy to do, although, because of where the lever is, it’s impossible to do when driving if the car seat is rear-facing.

The fabric and padding are both soft and comfortable. Emma sleeps really well in it!

The instruction manual is hidden in the back of the chair behind the zip. And the cover is easy to remove and wash.

We’re definitely happy with our new car seat and so is Emma!

  1. We have a one of these, Monkey’s almost 3 and still happily in it 🙂 He loves the cushion and actually because he’s never know anything different he’s fine with it – also helps when he wants to eat in the car etc as well as it doesn’t got all over him! Its easier to put him in too. When we were looking there were very few rear facing carseats for that group, I think there is more now but I couldn’t recommend enough and would happily buy it again. xx #KidsCorner

  5. I’ve always found shopping for car seats so stressful – we’re looking for new ones for my older two at the moment. I’m glad you’ve found something you’re happy with.

  6. Looks and sounds good. We’re considering a new car seat as Baby L isn’t too far away from outgrowing her first one. We’re definitely wanting extended rear facing because of the increased safety, so this Cybex one is something we’ll have to look at even closer 🙂

    • Hi, yes she’s 3 in March and still sits rear facing with plenty of room. She’s about 100cm and weighs roughly 13kg. Haven’t turned her forward facing yet as she’s still very happy as she is 🙂
